Barcelona in photos :: Barcelone en photos

Bonjour UNIgirls!

this morning i thought i would share with you some memories from my short trip in Barcelona.

My husband and I spent 4 days in this historical and charming city this December. It was cold, the food was greasy but we fell in love with the beauty of this city.

Voici quelques endroits ou paysage qui resteront à jamais gravé dans notre mémoire...

This was the view from our hotel bedroom. a typical street in Barcelona. we were staying in the Old town, near the waterfront. Cosy & charming area.

In Barcelona, we found ourselves ended up in a new square every five minutes. They are everywhere and all so beautiful. This one with the old buildings and the fresh palm trees mix was our favorite. Maybe cause it was the first one we saw but we find it very unique and different from what we know.

This street had a very Gothic feel. It felt like we were on a movie set. We loved it.

Barcelona was cold but oh so colorful. This photo was taken in a huge market. It was so beautiful with all the fresh fruits & meats. It smelled like heaven. Wish i had a kitchen there so i would have had a reason to buy some fresh products in this typical market. Very tempting!

During our walking escapade, we stopped by the MACBA museum. I have a fascination and i love contemporary art museum. i always find their architecture so unique and i love browsing in their boutique! So, here's the Museum of contemporary art of Barcelona. Notice the contrast of old and modern in the architecture. That was very special to see. This very new and fresh building among the very old style ones. Loved it!

When we arrived in Barcelona, they only thing i knew i wanted for sure to see was all the beautiful Gaudi realisations. I've heard so much about them and it would be for me the sign that i was really in Barcelona. So here is the Sagrada Familia. A very big unfinished temple that they first started to construct in 1882. When Gaudi died, only one of the tour was constructed. When the project will be done, it will count 18 of these tours. They plan to finish the Sagrada between 2025 and 2030... still a while to go!

Talking of Gaudi, here's the Guell Park. It was, with no hesitation, one of my favorite thing we've done in Barcelona. Maybe it helped that we finally got the sun and a bit of warmth when we got there but its seriously one of the most beautiful park i've seen in my life. Its colorful and full of beautiful art pieces and palm trees. If i would be living in Barcelona, i would go picnic there very often i feel. It felt like a ressourcing and for sure very inspiring place.

To finish this post, here's a nice view of Barcelona taken from one of the Sagrada Familia tour.
Hope i make you feel like going away! Go, travel, discover your planet, this is the best thing in the world!!!!!

Christmas Drink Recipe!

For those who don't know this, as well as being an employee at Unicorn, I also work part time in a bar. I've been working in bars since I acquired the legal drinking age, so 19 in P.E.I., and have gained some notable skill in mixology.

One of my favourite drinks to prepare are Russian Eggnogs, and I created this little holiday devil in a cup last Christmas when I was still on P.E.I.

This can be a very sweet drink, so it is best to cut the sweetness with milk or soy milk.

All you need to prepare this is:

125ml of Eggnog
125 ml of 2%, 1% or skim milk (to your preference, if you like really sweet drinks, go nuts on another 125 ml of eggnog!)
1 oz of Kahlua
1 oz of Vodka
ice

Fill a shaker with ice and pour the kahlua and vodka, followed by the eggnog and milk. Then shake it with all your might to create a very frothy head on your drink when you pour it in a high ball glass. For added embellishment, sprinkle a little nutmeg on top. And ta-da you got yourself a tasty holiday drink!

If anyone else has any holiday drink recipes, let a Unicorn sister know! I'd love to hear them!

ChristNess.

Hello Unigirls and Boys!

My humblest apologies for not having been able to blog lately. Things have been crazy bananas at the store! Ear-muffs are selling like crazy and it's like our Mojito stock had legs and was literally carrying itself out the door!

Today, I've decided to take the time to tell you about the Thibaudier-Ness family tradition! Every year, I celebrate Christmas with my parents in Prince Edward Island but this year, unfortunately, I am residing in Montreal. That's okay though because I will be with friends and hopefully, I will be able to carry on the T-Ness tradition this year without my parents.

Every year, my father and I erect our Christmas tree on the 24th and decorate it. In the meantime, my mother tends to lock herself up in the kitchen and makes the traditional Hungarian cakes that she has been making and mastering for as long as I remember every Christmas! She makes apple strudels, makos, kalàcs, and the traditional fruit cake! The former three that I named are all traditional Hungarian cakes known to be prepared for special occasions such as Christmas or Easter.

We'll usually have musical classics playing, a very popular song is John Lennon's and Yoko Ono's Happy Xmas (War Is Over) that will resonate on repeat through out our household.

For dinner, we tend to have some charcuterie, baguette and a nice cheese platter with some Camembert, Roquefort, and Gruyère for an appetizer to entertain the fine wine we have flowing! The main course is traditionally a meat fondue, with sides that range from spinach salad, escargots, wild rice and steamed veggies.

I remember one year, we ended up having Chinese food and it was disastrous. P.E.I. Chinese food, definitely not as good as the kind you find in Montreal AND  not that good when sober as it is when you are drunk and on the way home for Peakes (anyone from Prince Edward Island will understand this). Just saying!

Hope everyone will be partaking in grand traditions this year as well!

Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) and Topfenstreduel (cream cheese strudel) are two popular Hungarian desserts that my mother has been baking for several years every Christmas.

Kalàcs, also known as Bejgli, are traditional pastries rolled in a yeast cake filled with poppy seeds or walnuts. My mom makes both every year.

Meat Fondue! So delicious! We usually use poultry for the meat in our Christmas eve main course!

rödkål - Choux rouge "sweet and sour"

Christmas flics!

Since the weather is getting so much colder these days, it is becoming more and more appealing to curl up and watch a Christmas movie with someone cozy and lovely.  Maybe throw some popcorn and some hot chocolate in there? Sounds like a nice winter evening to me!! Lately I have watched a few favorites.  The Holiday is just so heartwarming, Elf is great for a good laugh and It's a Wonderful Life is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies.

Happy cuddling!!

xo!

Christmas morning FEAST!

Well Unigirlz and boyz...hope that you are all getting your presents wrapped and putting your decorations up because Christmas is in ONE week!! I have never really lost the giddy feeling that bubbled up every Christmas as a child.  Even now that I am 24 I still get so very excited to decorate the tree and sing carols!!!

This will be my first Christmas away from my family and I am having a good time thinking about which of my family's traditions I am going to carry on with Tyler, my fiance here in Montreal.

The first thing that comes to mind is Christmas FOOD! Every Christmas morning in the Kerr house my brother and I open our stockings, then we make an enormous breakfast before we can open the rest of the presents under the tree.  Tyler and I are going to combine our ideas for what makes a Christmas breakfast and it is looking like it will be QUITE the feast indeed!!

What kind of festive feast does your family have on Christmas morning?

Christmas Cheer!

A little bit of old fashioned Christmas for the Uni Boys and Girls!

i'm growing a unicorn

Big news UNIgirls!

i was thinking of a good way or good moment to announce you this but nothing special came up to my mind.. so it will simply go like this...

I'm growing a unicorn in my belly... yes, i'm 15 weeks pregnant!

Our little one is traveling the world with us at the moment and its been good but very exhausting. We are very excited at UNICORN to welcome the first UNIbaby. so you may see me with a big belly in the coming months and its not cause i've been eating too much turkey or christmas goodies..

I have a feeling this baby will have lots of aunties ;-)

I'll try to keep you posted on the fashion development of this pregnancy! that's going to be a fun fashion challenge and interesting to be creative with this big belly! haha! so far, nothing is showing really so i can keep wearing my normal clothes. good thing the trend is offering us a lot of tunics and looses outfits!

hihi! i am all giddy!

sorry...

Hey UNIgirls,

we are so sorry for the lack of posting on our blog. I'm away and havent had access too many computers so far! ill try to get better when i'm back in Stockholm next weekend.

So far this trip has been amazing but very COLD! I know you guys have tons of snow and its -20 something maybe.. so i shouldnt complain, i'm away walking in beautiful streets and eating amazing food. It just harder to feel on vacation and relax when your shoulders are crisped and all you can think of is getting inside a cafe for a warm hot chocolate!

Anyway, since i left you last time i've been working 3 amazing days with the WeSC crew in Stockholm. I had the chance to see the upcoming Fall 2010 collection which is screaming UNICORN from the first piece to the last. I dont have access to any pics of these beauties... sadly. you'll have to wait next August to see it! Of course, as usual, we will make sure you get lots of black but the main colors were Burgundy, Jazz blue (i know it sounds ridiculous but thats how they call it, so its basically a grey blue color) and black. Crazy shoulders, stretchy catsuit style one piece, open back, wool and warm jackets.

WeSC was celebrating their 10 years anniversary in 2009. For the occasion, they invited all the WEactivist and organised and nice dinner to thanks everyone. After the dinner, they invited us to an amazing show with Millencollin, Timbuktu, Ladu Tigra (which i fell in love with) and few more Djs. fun time!

After the WeSC sales meeting, my husband and I left Sweden for Spain and thats we I am right now. Writting you from my hotel room. We're in Barcelona. Its been 3 amazing days so far but like i mentionned before, very cold. i love the small narrow streets of this city. I feel wherever you walk, theres people. The city is very big and very charming, Lots of nice big wood windows and balconys with flowers. The nice boutique are hard to find. The trend here is very very colorful, patchwork style. Not UNICORN at all! Shoes are either amazingly expensive and nice or very very cheap quality. I think the shopping action will take place mostly when i get back to Stockholm!

The food in Barcelona is... ok. If you love potatoes, sausages, not too much veggies and iceberg salads, youll be in heaven. im more the healthy type so i find it hard to eat good quality food. But also, the city is so big, maybe we just hang out in the wring places! who knows?

Today is our last complete day here. we are planning to just walk around. we've done the tourist stuff already and feel like cruising around, relaxing.

hope the snow is not making you to cranky and that you have to go and say hello to our UNIcrew at the store. I know they work hard and i miss them a lot. You should definitely stop by for your christmas shopping, they'll be lots of help for sure!

kisses from Barcelona!
