CollectiveUNI Activity 4! *Recipe Exchange* May 13th

Dear Unicorn Gals and members of the Unicorn Collective,
Here at UNICORN, plans for our fourth Collective activity are well under way! This next event is a little different and I am very excited for it!
We are calling it the *Unicorn Recipe Exchange* and here is what it is all about...
We will all bring the recipe and ingredients for one delicious summer dish to share with our fellow Unicorns and we will chop, create, taste and chat together all evening! The dish has to be something that does not require any cooking or baking seeing as we do not have a kitchen in the boutique (only head-turning, attention-grabbing clothing). Think picnic style...salads of all sorts, snack mixes, finger food...use your wonderful imaginations!
Instead of having a participation fee for this activity, we are just asking that you bring enough to share with four people and we will all enjoy sampling one anothers creations!!! After our sampling extravaganza, we will exchange recipes Hoorah!
Added Bonus!!: Our dear friend (and fellow Unicorn) Danielle Levy has helped plan this activity and will be there to answer any questions regarding nutrition you may have. Danielle is currently in the process of becoming a certified nutritionalist and has a wealth of knowlege regarding taking care of our bodies and healthy living. We are inviting you to e-mail questions to Danielle in advance if you like and she will come ready with all the information you are looking for.
Her e-mail address is: daniellelevy27@hotmail.com
Let us break down the details for you ladies:
ACIVITY: Summer recipe cooking, tasting and nutrition discussion
PRICE: Ingredients for ONE dish, enough for four people
DATE: Wed. May 13th 2009
TIME: 7pm
PLACE: Boutique Unicorn
ACTIVITY EXPERT: Danielle Levy, nutritionalist
WHAT TO BRING: Ingredients, Recipe, and Cooking tools (knives, bowls, spoons etc.) that you need to make your dish, and Questions for Danielle!
Throughout the evening, everything in the boutique will be 15% OFF!!!!
I can not wait for this evening of fun and savoury delights!
Please RSVP before MAY 10th: info@boutiqueunicorn.com
See you all soon!

today

today i had a very special day.
my husband (TSM) and I were invited to have brunch at the swedish embassy residence in Ottawa to meet PETER BJORN & JOHN.
first you think it will be very formal, stressful and maybe boring.
well.. its not exactly what happened.
i think i can say it has been the best sunday brunch i ever had!
first of all, to my big suprise, the swedish ambassador in Canada is a SHE! Her name is Mrs. Ingrid Iremark and she is wonderful, very welcoming and friendly.
Second, the food was amazing. Classic Lax and dill with potatoes. I love swedish food. so fresh and simple. We also got the chance to drink some good champagne and mimosa.
Then we met the band and i have to say that Peter, Bjorn and John were very nice. Good conversation with them and lots of laugh.
They are playing at LE NATIONAL tomorrow! you better go check them out cause they have lots of talent and in bonus they are very friendly people.
I really love this video they made for Norrlands Riviera. I like the colors, the images, the style.
thanks again to THESWEDISHMODEL for the fun time and the quick trip in Ottawa!

Celebrating Earth Day. April 22nd 09.
I use to think the idea of Earth Day was cheap... that it was not enough to dedicate only one day to care for the earth. Now I see Earth Day as a time to celebrate our appreciation for the earth- and that it's up to each of as to make everyday Earth Day... So I thought I'd share my TOP 3 ways to live green!
1) Eat a plant-based diet: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States reports that livestock production is one of the major causes of the world's most pressing environmental problems, including global warming, land degradation, air and water pollution + biodiversity loss. They estimate that 18% of greenhouse gas emissions comes from meat production, a bigger share than that of transport. Try eating one vegan meal a day- free of animal products. This will benefit your health as well as the health of the planet!
2) Bike to work/school: Cycling is a carbon-neutral method of transport. It's also mad fun, a quick and efficient way of getting around, it's cheap (no money on gas, parking, car repairs), AND it's great exercise!
3) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: This is the 'Earth Day mantra' because it sums up how we should live in order to be sustainable. The 1st priority is that we REDUCE the amount we consume and only take what we really need from the earth. Second, that we REUSE things like a water container instead of disposable plastic water bottles, a thermos for coffee/tea instead of wasting disposable cups, or reusable shopping bags instead of using/throwing out plastic bags. Lastly, we must dispose of whatever we buy responsibly by RECYCLing and composting.
please welcome..
yes, we will now have contributors on our blog.. much more fun things to read about from different UNIgirls that we think have something interesting to bring you.
Please welcome to the UNIbloggers crew Chantal Houtteman.
Chantal is the hip city girls that gathers to all the cool events happening in the city. her agenda is always full of exciting projects and events. she will keep you posted on the latest from our beautiful city and her fun adventures.
Our second but neithertheless new UNIblogger is Danielle Levy. The expert blogger (http://fantastic-dl.blogspot.com/ , http://montrealisawesome.com/ ) that knows everything about good nutrition, health and how to live the perfect green life.
Cant wait to read these beautiful girls and hope you'll enjoy it as much as i will!

Valentino: The Last Emperor
This documentory about the legendary dress-maker, Valentino looks really charming and cool. I just can not find when it is opening here in Montreal. I will keep my eyes open though. In the meantime, here is the trailer...
La La La Human Steps
I abolutely love contemporary dance and my favorite company in the whole world just happens to call Montreal home. La La La Human Steps is an incredible company founded by Edouard Lock. The dancers are famous for their amazing athleticism and the precision with which they execute the choreography. I find the work of this company daring, captivating and extremely beautiful.
On April 30th, May 1st and 2nd Human Steps will perform their most recent, very successful piece, Amjad at Place des Arts. I have been looking forward to this performance since before I moved to Montreal and very much hope to go!
Human Steps not only tours their live performances worldwide, but they also work in different mediums. Here is a video they created in 2003 for the Festival international du nouveau cinema de Montreal. I am sure all my friends have seen it already because I force them all to watch it pretty frequently. It is called Amélia.

my blueberry nights
ok i know, im very late! this movie came out in 2007... but i really want to see it. i just happened to hear about it. Directed by Kar Wai Wong, My Blueberry NIghts is about a young woman who takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way. The cast is amazing; Jude Law, Nathalie Portman, Norah Jones and my forever lovely Cat Power (Chan Marshall). Heres the part of the movie that capted my attention and made me want to see it so bad:

New stock: Bàrila
Inspired by her travels, music and social surrounding, Sabrina Barila partnered with her sister Claudia to create a lifestyle brand for the women who "live the life they love" creating looks that touch every aspect of a our lives.
Growing up in a Southern Italian family surrounded by sewing machines, it was inevitable that the sisters would design a collection that is rich with color, texture and shapes that have a modern yet ethnically eccentric twist.
We just received their latest collection in store! its simply beautiful, elegant and very confortable. Plus, its all made in CANADA!! heres a sneak peak:

collectiveUNI activity3- THE ZINE APRIL 15TH+++

We havent forgot our famous collectiveUNI activity!! We postponed the ZINE last month so now its time to make it happen.
Heres the details:
++English will follow++
Allo chères UNIgirls!
voici l'activité no3 de la collectiveUNI
alors voilà, nous allons faire du collage dans le but précis de créer un petit "zine" avec comme thème, la mode et l'art!
Voici la définition d'un ZINE selon WIKIPEDIA: A zine is most commonly a small circulation, non-commercial publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier on a variety of colored paper stock.
A popular definition includes that circulation must be 5,000 or less (ours will be only 20-30, depending on how many people are coming to the activity), although in practice the significant majority are produced in editions of less than 100, and profit is not the primary intent of publication.
